Sofya Maryanova is a graduate of the Ippolitov-Ivanov Music College, and Russia's Saratov State Conservatory. She specializes in piano performance, collaborative piano, and pedagogy. In the United States, Maryanova enjoys an all-encompassing career. Besides performing as a soloist, she collaborates frequently with violinist Leonid Polishchuk, her husband. She is a professor of piano at SUNY New Paltz and also teaches one-on-one lessons in her studio. She is currently serving as the organist at Bloomington Reformed Church.
Violinist Leonid Polishchuk is a graduate of the Ippolitov-Ivanov Music College, recieving his master's degree at The Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory. He has performed with orchestras and taught at the Gnesin Music College and the Ippolitov-Ivanov College, both in Moscow. In the U.S. Leonid continues to perform, as well as teach. He coaches students of the College Youth Symphony orchestra at SUNY New Paltz and also teaches both violin and viola in his New Paltz and Schenectady studio.
Under his guidance, several students have been accepted to the Manhattan School of Music. Some of his students in Ulster County are members of the College Youth Symphony orchestra at SUNY New Paltz and were chosen to participate in All-State Orchestra. Others have received prestigious scholarships to non-music colleges. Mr.Polishchuk plays the violin made by a member of Groblicz violin-makers (Krakow, Poland ca.1600). The trademark of the Groblicz violin is a carved dragon's head instead of a scroll.
