Vera-Mae Kraev is a MIss Russia at the Festival of Nations 2019

Miss Russia 2019 Vera KraevShe is 14 years old.  She wrote in her essay - "My Russian heritage has a massive impact on my life. I adore teaching others about my culture and helping them understand the true nature of how Russia really is, not the picture painted in politics."

Russian Culture

Russian culture has a long and rich cultural history. The culture of the ethnic people has a long tradition of achievement in many fields, especially when it comes to literature, folk dancing, philosophy, classical music, traditional folk music, ballet, architecture, painting, cinema, animation and politics, which all have had considerable influence on world culture. Russia also has a rich material culture and a tradition in technology.

Traditional Russian Clothing

Traditional Russian clothing is different from clothing of other countries of the world and even from the neighboring countries. Traditions have been preserved primarily within the peasantry.  During the reign of Peter I, the Russian tsar issued a decree that prohibited wearingtraditional Russian clothing in favor of foreign clothes. It was the outward manifestation of all the innovations introduced by Peter I.  Peasants were not affected by this decree. Peasants are real conservatives who rarely made any changes in their clothing. Clothing traditions in Russia among the peasants were handed down from generation to generation. And clothing was made mostly at home by using various home-produced materials. Besides peasants, clothing traditions were preserved by the Cossacks, freeholders, Old Believers and other strata of Russian society. Russia is a big country with diverse climate zones: from subtropical to arctic. In every region of vast Russia different styles of clothing emerged.

Ethnic Cuisine

Russian cuisine widely uses fish, poultry, mushrooms, berries, and honey. Crops of rye, wheat, barley, and millet provide the ingredients for various breads, pancakes and cereals, as well as for kvass, beer and vodka drinks. Black bread is rather popular in Russia, compared to the rest of the world. Flavourful soups and stews include shchi, borsch, ukha, solyanka and okroshka. Smetana (a heavy sour cream) is often added to soups and salads. Pirozhki, blini and syrniki are native types of pancakes. Chicken Kiev, pelmeni and shashlyk are popular meat dishes, the last two being of Tatar and Caucasus origin respectively. Other meat dishes include stuffed cabbage rolls (golubtsy) usually filled with meat. Salads include Olivier salad, vinegret and dressed herring.

Tourist Attractions

Russia is a transcontinental country in Eastern Europe and North Asia. Russia is  the largest country in the world by area, covering more than one-eighth of the Earth's inhabited land area. s the world's largest nation, Russia has a special draw for visitors from all over the world. The country's size means that there truly is something for everyone here, whether you're interested in historic cities and monuments, dramatic landscapes and scenery, or world-class museums of art, literature, and culture.

Saint Petersburg. The second-largest Russian city after Moscow, Saint Petersburg is filled to the brim with world-class art, culture, and history. The historic city center has the honor of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site; the biggest attraction here is the massive Winter Palace, which houses the Hermitage Museum and boasts a collection of more than three million items that have been collected from all over the world.

Moscow. As the capital of Russia and the country's largest city, Moscow is where most visitors get their first real taste of Russian culture. The city is surprisingly cosmopolitan, but it still maintains its traditional charm thanks to the many historic buildings and monuments that dot the streets.

Altay. Extending into Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and China as well as into Russia, the Altay Mountains are tucked away in a remote area of southern Siberia.

Ekaterinburg. Located near the border of Europe and Asia, Ekaterinburg is the fourth-largest city in Russia. Because of its location in the Ural Mountains, the city is a popular destination for people interested in cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, and exploring the nearby Deer Streams National Park.

Golden Ring. The Golden Ring is a ring of small historical towns nestled in the countryside to the northeast of Moscow.

Kamchatka. Easily one of the most scenic areas in Russia, Kamchatka is a 1,250-km-long peninsula located in the easternmost part of Russia. The wilderness is almost untouched and the area is very geologically active; there are an incredible number of volcanoes, hot springs, geysers, and even an extraordinary acid lake.

Kazan. Approximately 10 years older than Moscow, the city of Kazan celebrated its 1000th anniversary in 2005. Because of its rich history and its location between Europe and Asia, the city is a fascinating blend of Russian and Tatar cultures and Muslin and Christian religions.

Lake Baikal has the honor of being both the largest and the deepest lake in the world, and with an estimated age of 25 million years, it's widely believed to be the world's oldest lake as well.

Sochi became internationally famous for hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics, but the city is also Russia's biggest summer resort destination.

Trans Siberian. With a length of 5,772 miles, the Trans Siberian is the longest railway in the world. The railway was constructed between the years of 1891 and 1916; it was originally intended to connect Moscow with the city of Vladivostok in the Far East, but today it is one of the most exciting and scenic ways for visitors to travel through the country.
