Rachmaninoff Music Competition is a part of the Russian Winter Festival
Russian composers have created some of the most beautiful and powerful classical music. Here are some of the big names… In the 19th century, a group called the “Mighty Five” (Rimsky-Korsakov, Mussorgsky, Balakirev, Borodin, and Cesar Cui) banded together and made their goal the promotion of purely Russian music. Tchaikovsky is regarded as the most popular Russian composer, and even "the most Russian" composer.
The music competition is open for contestants ages 6 through 21 and consists of three divisions: piano, vocal and violin. Each division has three age levels: children, teens and adults. Piano contestants will perform one piece of music written by a Russian composer of their choice and judged by a panel of three musicians.
The winners of three divisions will perform Sunday, February 11 2018 at 1:30pm at the All Winners Concert at the New Russia Cultural Center. All Winners concert are free and open to the public.
